BIS AG presenting the industrial working world as a highlight at the Munich birthday celebrations
Industrial services presented at the Altstadtringfest celebrationsAt the Altstadtringfest celebrations taking place on Saturday 19 July and Sunday 20 July in the Munich city centre, Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services AG (BIS AG) will be highlighting industrial services on a stand measuring 150 square metres and featuring a ten-metre high accessible tower. Impressive large photographs from the world of industrial processing will lure the public to the BIS AG stand, where they will be able to find out more about the Company in a playful and entertaining manner. The purpose is to present industrial services as a world offering appealing career prospects.
“We offer our customers extensive industrial services with a strong internally sourced component. Qualified and experienced staff form the base of our successful business model. Accordingly, the momentum of our business is reflected not only in our revenues but also in the growth in our staff numbers,” explains Thomas Töpfer, CEO of BIS AG. In the four years since 2004, revenues have surged by over 100 percent from EUR 846 million to more than EUR 1.73 billion. Currently standing at over 21,000, the number of employees has also almost doubled since 2004. In Germany alone, there are just under 5,000 employees, an increase of almost two thirds since 2004.
As Thomas Töpfer sees it, this trend is proof that industrial production in the developed countries does not necessarily have to decline as a result of globalisation. “The manufacturing industry has been contributing to growth in Germany for years. At the same time, employee numbers have been rising on a sustained basis. With its growing proportion of engineering activities and wide range of technical activities, industrial services are helping to underpin these trends and are in fact a key growth driver.
Sustained need for trained staff
On account of the persistent need for engineers and trained staff, the BIS Group is one of the companies which is continuing to recruit staff. As a result of continued growth, there are roughly 100 vacancies in Germany on an ongoing basis, primarily for graduate engineers, welding engineers, industrial engineers, design mechanics, tool mechanics, industrial mechanics, scaffolding builders, painters and surface coating specialists, pipe constructors, technical draughtsmen and women, service experts and metal assemblers. With roughly 170 employees, the holding company, which has been based in Munich for 25 years, is characterized by lean structures. Given rising administrative demands, however, additional personnel resources are also required for management and central functions.
The Company is also stepping up training and skills-development activities to meet the growing demands of the future. Accordingly, the number of school leavers who have been given traineeships has risen by 100 percent to over 260 since 2000. At the same time, junior management training is being pursued with great intensity as are the joint activities with career academies. “Industrial services are a sector with a future,” says Töpfer. As this sector is still relatively young as an independent industry, BIS AG’s activities as a premium partner in connection with the celebrations for Munich’s 850th anniversary are helping to make the Company known to a broad public beyond the sector in which it operates and to highlight the benefits which it offers as an employer. As part of these activities, BIS AG raffled “850 bicycles for Munich” mostly in connection with media partnerships but also in the form of donations to charities in Munich. As well as this, it is a partner to the “850 Talents for Munich” initiative, in which Munich-based companies have undertaken to recruit at least the same number of people as the number of years which Munich is celebrating.
Outlook - Insight - Things to Discover
Expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors, the two-day Altstadtringfest celebrations are a special highlight in the festival calendar, to which companies in particular are making a contribution to a varied program of events along the “Business Mile”. At its stand, BIS AG will be showcasing the full range of industrial services required to ensure the availability of production facilities and thus making a crucial contribution to industrial customers’ profitability. These services cover the entire life cycle of an industrial asset from analysis and consulting to construction, extensions, modernisation and conversion. Activities such as scaffolding, pipeline construction, insulation and corrosion protection are required throughout the entire life cycle of an industrial asset. This will be reflected at the stand with its motto “Outlook - Insight - Things to Discover”, with a ten-metre high tower made of scaffolding at the top of which a viewing platform will be located, a pipeline hide-and-seek game and the use of insulation for furniture such as seats.
Further attractive highlights include infrared thermography. Here, visitors will be able to see on a monitor the heat emitted by their bodies while riding a bicycle, while the efficiency of technical noise control will be demonstrated in a special sound deadening cabin. One spectacular feature concerns oil rig maintenance, with visitors able to see the demands made of industrial climbers. A 3D game will stress the high priority given to site safety not only on a oil rig but in all areas of industrial service. With its blend of playful elements, features for all the senses and information, the entire stand aims to present to visitors the industrial world and industrial service in particular. At the same time, it seeks to arouse young people’s interest in career options in this area.
